How to Care for Your Sterling Silver Jewelry
Occasional Lover jewelry is crafted with high-quality 925 sterling silver, designed to last beautifully for years with the right care. Follow these tips to keep your pieces looking their best:
Sterling silver actually stays in better shape when worn regularly, as your skin’s natural oils help prevent tarnish. However, it’s best to avoid exposing your jewelry to harsh chemicals like chlorine, bleach, and household cleaners, which can damage silver. Remove your pieces when swimming, cleaning, or applying products like lotion or perfume.
Moisture speeds up tarnishing, so store your jewelry in a cool, dry place when not wearing it. To protect it further, keep each piece in an individual, airtight bag, like a small ziplock, to limit exposure to air and humidity.
Polish your silver regularly with a soft polishing cloth to bring back its shine, but avoid tissue or paper towels, which can scratch the surface. For pieces with intricate designs, a gentle, silver-specific cleaner can help remove tarnish; just remember to rinse thoroughly and dry completely.
Never use harsh or abrasive materials to clean your sterling silver, as they can scratch and damage the surface. Skip toothpaste, baking soda, or other common household cleaners that can be too rough on silver.
To prevent scratching, keep each piece separate in storage—ideally in a lined jewelry box or wrapped in a soft cloth. Avoid exposing silver to direct sunlight or damp environments, as both can accelerate tarnishing.
By following these steps, your sterling silver jewelry will maintain its luster and beauty for years to come.
